Furniture Stores in Sydney

Being based in the Hunter Valley, furniture store options can be quite thin on the ground so the simple fact is – when shopping for furniture we go into the big smoke as delivery to the Hunter Valley, while a bit expensive, is essential when we’re seeking that must-have exclusive item.

Recently we were shopping around to fit out a new premises and this is what we purchased:

Dining Table – we picked it up from Habitat Furniture in Hurlstone Park on the outer edge of Sydney’s inner west. Owners Poppy and Con pride themselves on offering only Australian-made furniture at affordable prices – knowing our eight-seater dining table was locally made in Sydney thereby supporting Australian craftspeople and their families, plus was less expensive than many upmarket imports, felt very good indeed. Habitat Furniture, 36-38 Canterbury Rd, Hurlstone Park, cnr Crinan St. Ph (02) 9558 4811.

Lounge Suite – being a new premises we decided to go with the Jasper lounge suite from King Furniture in Annandale – consultant Irene Lujan was very helpful explaining the different configurations we could have – in fact she was outright patient! Hand-crafted furniture at the cutting edge of modern furniture design is what King Furniture specialise in and their fabrics and leather reflect the latest trends and the best of tradition – their Jasper suite has set off the lounge brilliantly giving it a contemporary feel. King Furniture, 61 Parramatta Rd, Annandale. Ph (02) 9516 5466.

Bookshelf – in the end there was a bookshelf we simply had to have as it reflected luxury and sophistication from every angle. It was from Milano Furniture in Ashfield, Sydney. For such an intimidating venue, director Maria Tezel was very relaxed and welcoming. The ‘Set System’ by designer Pinuccio Borgonovo can also be used as a room divider which was perfect for us, while still allowing the TV, the element which strongly features in any lounge room, to be perfectly useable by both sides of the composition – in fact we have a remote that causes the TV to silently slide from one room to another. Milano Sydney, 140 Parramatta Rd, Ashfield. Ph (02) 9799 5499.

Entertainment Unit – For a long time we considered a sleek entertainment unit from SydneySider Media Furniture in Stanmore. Yes our research truly was two days purely in the inner west of Sydney! Handmade in Sydney and shown to us by George Karatzis, we loved the elegance and futuristic tone of SydneySider’s items. Square edge panels, subtle semantics and proportionate symmetry are just part of the aesthetic cues that inspired us. 22-28 Parramatta Rd, Stanmore. Ph (02) 9557 8713.
